Tortoise Beetle

I still can’t believe I messed up such a wonderful opportunity… I was a bit too eager to take a photo of my first tortoise beetle in Japan, and managed to scare it away before getting a decent shot!! There was a bit of cursing I can tell you! My photos are not even good enough to identify the exact species, which is very disappointing. So, next time…

By the way, I like the Japanese name for this group of beetles. It’s kamenoko-hamushi, which means “baby turtle” leaf beetles.
