This is only the second time that I’ve found one of these big saw-toothed longhorns (nokogiri-kamikiri). The last time was two years ago and it was in almost exactly the same place!

I cannot be certain of my identification of this leaf beetle. It is similar to the picture in my Japanese Coleoptera book, but quite unlike the couple of pictures I found on the Internet.

Shinobu found this tiny beetle in the house. At only 3mm, it was a bit difficult to spot!

It was terrible weather today – rainy, misty and cool. I thought it wouldn’t be a good day for insect hunting… Wrong! It was a great day for longhorn beetles. I managed to find six species, of which two were new to me. Not bad at all.

I find a couple of these gomadara longhorn beetles every year, but I can’t resist taking photos. What a spectacular species this is!! It even has a page on Wikipedia (here).
